Press Release

Celebrate DRAWtoberfest at multiple events throughout October 2014

Hampton Roads, VA, September 28, 2014: The third annual DRAWtoberfest, a

month-long celebration of drawing, takes place throughout several events during the month of October

2014. Events are free unless otherwise stated. Details can be found at drawtoberfest.org.

24-Hour Comics Day: October 4th. 10:00 a.m. – October 5th 10:00 a.m.

DRAWtoberfest kicks off with 24-hour Comics Day & Comics Make-TACular at Bayside Area Library in

Virginia Beach. All are encouraged to come by the library anytime after 10:00 a.m. Saturday to make

their own comics, mini-comics, or just hang out and draw. Those participating in the 24-Hour challenge –

to create a 24-page comic from start to finish in just 24 hours – are invited to stay overnight until 10:00

a.m. on Sunday. Details for this event can be found at http://goo.gl/F6fiVX

Inspiration Exchange: October 12th (11:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.)

Have you ever wanted to create, but were stuck for ideas? How did you get past that creative impasse?

Inspiration Exchange is all about breaking down the walls of “creator’s block” and sharing exercises and

strategies to get ideas flowing and to get you creating again. Inspiration Exchange will be at Selden

Arcade in Norfolk, and will run concurrently with 757 Comic & Cartoon Creators’ early monthly meeting.

DRAWtoberfest Faire: October 19th (11:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.)

Come to Virginia MOCA for DRAWtoberfest Faire, featuring a live model drawing session with the

Norfolk Drawing Group, a mini-comics workshop with 757 Comic & Cartoon Creators, an “Icon Equation”

workshop with local comic creator Vince White, plus a Zentangle demonstration and other activities.

Enjoy FREE admission to the MOCA galleries for the duration of the Faire!

Cartoon College: November 1st (6:30 p.m.)

This documentary follows several students as they work towards their MFA in Comic Arts degrees at

Vermont’s Center for Cartoon Studies. These aren’t artists studying to draw superheroes – these are

independent creators telling their own stories. Cartoon College will show for free at Central Library in

Virginia Beach.

The Norfolk Drawing Group meets every Tuesday evening from 7:00 to 9:30 pm. We start off with 1

minute and 5 minute poses and work our way up to 20 minute or 40 minute poses after the short poses.

We welcome all artists (age 18 and older) and anyone interested in modeling for the group. Sessions

cost $7.00 or $20.00 for four consecutive sessions. Students with proper id can pay $3.00.

757 Comic & Cartoon Creators: October 28th (2:30 p.m. – 5:30 p.m.)

The name of the group pretty much says it all, but what it doesn’t say is that everyone is welcome to join,

and they are a family-friendly group. 757ccc typically meets on the 2nd Saturday and 4th Sunday of each

month. Meetings and membership are free and open to everyone. Find out more details at their
